Information on battery disposal

In connection with the sale of batteries or the supply of appliances containing batteries, we are obliged to draw your attention to the following:

Batteries and rechargeable batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. You are legally obliged to ensure that used batteries are collected separately.

You can return used batteries free of charge to retailers or to the designated public collection points after use.

The crossed-out dustbin symbol indicates that batteries must not be disposed of with household waste.

The chemical symbol for the relevant hazardous substance may appear beneath the crossed-out dustbin symbol:

  • Pb = Battery contains lead
  • Cd = Battery contains cadmium
  • Hg = Battery contains mercury

The separate collection and recycling of used batteries makes a significant contribution to protecting the environment and public health, as well as conserving valuable resources.

Information on the disposal of electrical and electronic equipment

Electrical and electronic equipment must not be disposed of with household waste. End users are legally obliged to ensure that waste equipment is collected separately.

The symbol of a crossed-out dustbin indicates that the equipment in question must not be disposed of with household waste.

Old appliances can be handed in at local collection points or in shops. For online purchases, there are statutory return options depending on the appliance. If batteries, rechargeable batteries or light bulbs are built into appliances and can be removed by the end user without causing damage, these must be removed and disposed of separately before discarding the appliance.

Each end user is responsible for deleting personal data from the devices to be disposed of.

Devices and appliances may contain hazardous substances which, if stored or disposed of improperly, can harm the environment and human health. Separate collection therefore serves the purposes of reuse, recycling and environmentally sound disposal.
